Above them, the sky darkened.

    Clouds gathered with unnatural speed, sweeping over the eastern ridge and spilling downward like a mantle drawn across the horizon. The first light of the sun rose into them and vanished.

    The Amorites saw it and felt a surge of confidence. Darkness was their ally. If the storm broke quickly, they might yet find places to hide.

Joshua stood on a rise above the descent, watching the sky close over the rising sun. The men around him felt the moment tightening — the day slipping toward darkness long before its time.

    The Amorites’ desire for darkness was unfolding before them. Their fear ebbed as hope returned. “Baal has come to save us,” one shouted.

But the LORD had taken the storm in His hand.

    Joshua lifted his face to the sky. He knew the moment had come.

    Joshua lifted his hand. His voice rose against the storm — clear, sharp, carrying across the ridge with a force that cut through wind and rain:

“Sun over Gibeon — be still.”

    The men nearest him felt the words strike the air like a blow. The Amorites heard them too. Some froze mid‑stride. Others turned, startled, confused, glancing upward as if expecting the sky itself to answer.

    And it did.

    There are directions the eye cannot follow, paths the hand cannot trace. The world is held within greater halls than men can see. And when those halls are opened, the sky does not tear — it yields, as a scroll yields when its edges roll back to reveal what lies behind.
